Enter a card manually with Stripe in Jovvie Point of Sale

Use the Enter Card payment method when you cannot use a card reader, for example when the customer reads you their card details over the phone. You type the card details into the register, and Stripe then charges the card. When the payment goes through, the order is marked completed.

Only type card details into the card field on the payment screen. Never write card numbers down, and never ask customers to send them by email or chat.

  1. In the cart, tap Checkout.
  2. If a tip screen or a Points & Rewards screen opens, complete it first. See Accept a tip and Redeem Points and Rewards.
  3. Under Select Payment Method, tap Enter Card.
  4. In the card field, type the card number.
  5. Type the expiration date.
  6. Type the security code (CVC).
  7. If a postal code field appears, type the card’s billing postal code.
  8. Tap the pay button. By default it shows Pay and the amount.

When the payment goes through, the register shows the completed order. Tap New Order to start the next sale.

Some cards require the cardholder to confirm the payment with their bank (3D Secure). For sales without subscription products, Enter Card rejects cards that require this verification and shows Oops! Card required 3d secure. Before asking the customer to pay another way, follow If the payment fails to confirm that no payment completed and none is still processing. Then ask the customer to pay another way, such as on a card reader.

If the card is declined or the details are wrong, the register shows the reason. Before retrying or switching payment methods, follow the checks in this section to confirm that no payment completed and none is still processing. Then correct the details or ask for another payment method. For declines, see Card declined and payment error messages.

If you see Payment failed. Please try again with a different payment method., the order is marked failed. A failed order does not by itself prove the customer was not charged. The charge request may already have reached Stripe.

To check the payment:

  1. Find the order in the register’s order history. See Find and view orders.
  2. Check your Stripe Dashboard for a payment on this order. Look for payments that completed and payments that are still processing.
  3. If the customer was charged, or a payment is still processing, do not charge again.
  4. Only if no payment completed and none is still processing, take the payment again.

If you are not sure whether the card was charged, contact Jovvie support before you take another payment.

If you see Stripe API Key not found, or a message starting with Connection to Stripe failed., the register cannot reach your Stripe account. Ask an administrator to check the Stripe connection. See Connect Stripe to Jovvie Point of Sale.

You can refund a Stripe card payment from the register. See Refund an order in the register.
