Install and connect Jovvie Checkout for WooCommerce

This page helps you install the Jovvie plugin for WooCommerce and connect it to your Jovvie account, so your store can take card payments in person on a card reader. The plugin is a ready-made way to use Jovvie Checkout with WooCommerce. It works with Stripe only. NMI is not supported.

  • WooCommerce is installed and active on your WordPress site. The Jovvie plugin needs it.
  • You are signed in to WordPress as an administrator.
  • You can sign in to, or create, a Jovvie account, and you can link a Stripe account to it.
  • Your browser allows pop-up windows from your WordPress site. The connection steps open a pop-up window.

The plugin is not in the WordPress.org plugin directory. You download it from Jovvie and upload it to your site.

  1. Go to the Jovvie Checkout for WooCommerce download page and download the plugin ZIP file.
  2. In your WordPress admin, go to Plugins > Add New Plugin.
  3. Click Upload Plugin.
  4. Click Choose File and select the ZIP file you downloaded.
  5. Click Install Now.
  6. Click Activate Plugin.

In your WordPress Plugins list, the plugin appears as Jovvie Payments Gateway for WooCommerce.

  1. In your WordPress admin, go to WooCommerce > Settings > Payments.
  2. Find Jovvie Payments in the list of payment methods and open it.

The settings are split into three groups: Account Management, Location & Terminals, and Payment Connect. Start in Account Management. See Settings reference for every field.

  1. In the Account Management group, find Connection status.

  2. Click Connect with Jovvie Payments.

    A pop-up window opens.

  3. In the pop-up, follow the prompts to sign in or create your Jovvie account and link your Stripe account.

  4. Wait for the message starting with Stripe account successfully connected!

The pop-up closes and the settings page reloads after a few seconds.

When the connection works, Connection status shows Connected. Connecting also turns on the Enable/Disable setting for Jovvie Payments. The Public key and Secret key fields are filled in for you.

If the pop-up shows a message starting with Failed to validate Stripe keys. or Unable to connect., close it, click Connect with Jovvie Payments again, and try once more. If it fails again, contact Jovvie support.

If the pop-up does not open, allow pop-ups for your site in your browser and click the button again.

In Account Management, you can change the name and text shown at checkout. See Settings reference.

  • Title: The payment method name. The default is Jovvie Payments.
  • Description: The text under the name. The default is You will be redirected to payment immediately after placing your order.

To stop offering Jovvie at checkout without disconnecting, clear the Enable/Disable checkbox and save your changes. Select it and save to turn Jovvie back on.

Unlike the GiveWP and Event Tickets plugins, the WooCommerce plugin has its own Test mode setting. It is a checkbox in Account Management labeled Enable test mode. While it is on, no real card is charged, and checkout shows the notice Note! Test Mode is enabled. Clear it before you take real payments. For more about test mode, see Use test mode.

  1. Set up a location and register a reader. See Set up a location and readers in WordPress.
  2. Contact Jovvie support to confirm that payment confirmations from Stripe (webhooks, which are automatic messages sent to your site) are set up for your site, in live mode and, if you use it, in test mode. WooCommerce orders only move to Processing after your site receives this confirmation.

If you cannot connect, contact Jovvie support.
