Stripe and NMI: what's different

Jovvie works with two payment processors: Stripe and NMI. A payment processor is the company that handles your card payments and sends the money to your bank. Most tasks look the same either way, but some features only work with one processor.

Use this page to check which features apply to you. Each product page also points out differences where they matter.

Where to check payouts Your Stripe Dashboard. The bank account you gave when you set up your NMI merchant account. See Where to see your payouts.

NMI terminals only work with currencies that have two decimal places. For an order in another currency, use a different payment method.

To take a payment, see Take a card payment with a Stripe reader or Take a card payment with an NMI terminal.

You can connect Stripe and NMI on the same site. Both card payment methods are named Swipe/Insert/Tap by default, so staff may see two methods with the same name in the register. The line under each name shows which is which: with Stripe Terminal or with NMI Terminal.

To make the difference clearer for staff, rename one or both methods. See Choose payment methods.

Where you look depends on the processor:

  • Stripe: check your Stripe Dashboard and the order history in the register.
  • NMI: check the terminal screen and the order history in the register.

Do not charge the customer again until you know that no payment went through and none is still processing. For the steps, see Card reader payment problems.
