Adjust stock by scanning in Jovvie Point of Sale

If you can manage inventory, you can scan a product’s barcode to change its stock count instead of adding the product to the cart. This helps when you receive a delivery or count the shelves.

  • Sign in to the register. See Open the Jovvie Point of Sale register and sign in.
  • Your products need barcodes. See Add barcodes to products.
  • You need a role that is allowed to manage inventory. By default this includes administrators, shop managers, and cashiers. An administrator can change which roles have this access. If you do not see Adjust Inventory, ask them to check your role.
  • Stock management must be turned on for the product or variation you want to adjust. A product without stock management does not get a stock count. See Set up inventory for a station.
  • Scanning must be available on your station. To open the scan bar, follow Open the scan field.
  1. Open the scan bar. On a unified search station, this is the Search or scan bar.
  2. Select Adjust Inventory. Scan Adds to Cart is cleared and cannot be changed while Adjust Inventory is selected.
  3. Tap the minus button to remove stock, or the plus button to add stock. Plus is selected when you open the scan bar. Your choice stays until a scan changes stock, and then it goes back to plus. Check the minus or plus selection before each scan. The two buttons are unavailable until Adjust Inventory is selected.
  4. To change the stock by more than one, tap Quantity.
  5. Enter a positive whole number on the keypad.
  6. Tap the checkmark button.
  7. Scan the barcode with your scanner.

The product’s stock goes up or down by the Quantity you set. Wait for the message Product stock quantity changed. If it does not appear, the change may not have been saved. Confirm the product’s saved stock count before you scan again, so you do not adjust it twice.

  • Stock never goes below zero. If you remove more than the product has, the stock is set to zero.
  • The scan only changes stock when exactly one product or variation has a barcode that matches the scan exactly, and that product or variation has a price.
  • If the barcode belongs to a product that has variations rather than to one variation, nothing changes. Scan the barcode of the variation you want.
  • If a scan does not match an eligible product, nothing changes and the barcode stays in the field. Check that the barcode is correct and that the product has a price, then clear the field and try again. See Add barcodes to products.
  • Do not type a barcode by hand with Adjust Inventory selected. The register checks after each character, so a shorter barcode that belongs to another product could change that product’s stock before you finish typing. Many scanners also enter barcodes like a keyboard, one character at a time, so the same thing can happen when you scan. Make sure no product’s barcode is the beginning of another product’s barcode, and after each scan check that the stock changed on the product you meant.

After a scan changes stock, Adjust Inventory is cleared. The minus and plus buttons go back to plus, Quantity goes back to one, and Scan Adds to Cart goes back to the station’s default. To adjust another product, select Adjust Inventory again and choose minus or plus.

On a station with a separate Scan bar, the bar closes after the scan unless repeat scanning is on. On a unified search station, the Search or scan bar stays open either way. In both cases, Adjust Inventory is cleared, so a later scan will add the product to the cart if Scan Adds to Cart is selected. For repeat scans, see Scan several items in a row.
