Take a Gravity Forms payment with Jovvie Checkout
Take an in-person card payment using Jovvie Checkout with your Gravity Forms form. The customer taps, inserts, or swipes their card on your Stripe card reader, and Gravity Forms records the payment on the form entry.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- The Jovvie add-on for Gravity Forms is installed and connected. In Forms > Settings > Jovvie Payments, Connection Status shows Connected. See Install and connect.
- Accepted Payment Status is set to Completed (Paid), the default. See Settings reference.
- The form has a Jovvie payment feed and produces an amount greater than zero. See Add Jovvie to a form.
- A Stripe card reader is registered to your connected Stripe account, turned on, and connected to the internet. See Set up a location and readers in WordPress. If this browser was connected to a specific location, the reader must be registered to that location.
- The device you use to take payments can reach your card readers in one of these ways:
- You are signed in to WordPress on this device.
- This browser was connected with Connect this browser in the Payment Connect group of the Jovvie settings. See Use Checkout on a shared or kiosk device.
- You know your Access PIN, the PIN that lets someone use your readers. Without one of the first two, the payment page asks for it.
- Jovvie support has confirmed that payment updates from Jovvie (webhooks) are set up for your site. Your site uses them to learn about failed and cancelled payments. To check, contact Jovvie support.
Take the payment
Section titled “Take the payment”-
Open the form on the device.
-
Fill out the form with the customer’s details and choices.
-
Submit the form.
You are taken to the Jovvie payment page. It shows the items and the total.
-
Select In-Person Payment.
-
If you see Provide PIN to access, enter your Access PIN in PIN. If you do not see it, skip to step 7.
-
Click Submit.
-
Under Choose a reader, select the reader the customer will use. Each reader shows its name and status.
-
Click Process Payment.
-
Ask the customer to tap, insert, or swipe their card on the reader, or pay with Apple Pay or Google Pay on the reader.
-
Follow any prompts on the reader screen.
When the payment goes through, you return to your site and see the form’s confirmation. If the confirmation is a message on the same page, the page goes back to a blank form after 5 seconds by default. See Reset the form after each payment.
For more about the payment page, see Take a payment on the Jovvie payment page.
If you submit the form and the Jovvie payment page does not open, something went wrong while the payment was being set up. This does not prove that no payment started. Before you submit the form again or take the payment another way:
- Check your Stripe Dashboard.
- Confirm that no payment went through and none is still processing.
- If you are not sure, contact Jovvie support.
To find the cause, see Add Jovvie to a form.
What happens to the entry
Section titled “What happens to the entry”When you submit the form, Gravity Forms saves the entry with the payment status Processing.
When you return to your site, the add-on checks the payment with Jovvie. If the payment went through, it marks the entry Paid and adds the note Payment completed via Jovvie.
The confirmation can appear even if the entry was not updated yet. To be sure, open the entry in Forms > Entries and check its payment status.
If you never return to your site, for example because the browser was closed, the entry stays Processing for now. About once an hour, the add-on checks entries that are still Processing:
- If the payment went through, it marks the entry Paid.
- If the payment failed or was cancelled, it marks the entry Failed and adds the note Payment failed in Jovvie (reconciled).
If your site receives a failure update from Jovvie first, the entry is marked Failed with the note Payment failed in Jovvie.
A card can be charged before the entry changes from Processing. If an entry is still Processing:
- Check your Stripe Dashboard to see whether the payment went through or is still processing.
- Do not charge the customer again. Wait for the hourly check to update the entry.
- If the entry does not update, or you are not sure, contact Jovvie support.
If you need to stop
Section titled “If you need to stop”To leave the payment page before the customer pays, click ← Back. You return to a blank form, and no confirmation shows. The entry stays Processing until the hourly check marks it Failed.
Only click ← Back after you are sure the customer has not paid. If a payment error appears, or you are not sure whether the card was charged, check your Stripe Dashboard first. Make sure no payment went through and none is still processing before you try again or submit the form again. If you are still not sure, contact support.
Need help?
Section titled “Need help?”If the payment page shows an error, see Checkout payment page errors or contact Jovvie support.
